2002-April 2008 Head of the Department

Heading the Department of Fine Arts involves the programming and global management of some 30 annual exhibitions, spread amongst the Foundation’s 10 exhibition spaces, in 6 cities, and touring other projects. The program is worked out from 2 to 5 years in advance, that means the management of more than 70 projects of different content, dimensions, difficulties and specificities.

Responsibilities

  • Research into- and study of projects to create a General Exhibition Program
  • Meetings with consultants in the different disciplines
  • Journeys for research and/or negotiation of loans and projects
  • Negotiation with Museums from all over the world
  • Information to the Board of the Institution regarding the exhibitions proposed for each space
  • Supervision of the production of all projects
  • Management of the Departmental General Budget
  • Informing the media regarding both the program and also each exhibition
  • Leading a team of 30 people. Supervision of the work of some 80 external collaborators

1989-2001 Coordinator of the Department

The general coordination of the department involves the control of management and the following-up of all the projects accepted by the Board of the Institution.

Responsibilities

  • Participating in defining the program and preparing the annual budget.
  • Organizing the exhibition calendar for each centre, according to the basic philosophy of the institution.
  • Controlling the number of projects assigned to each co-coordinator.
  • Controlling the duration and touring of each exhibition, including the requirements for setting up and dismantling.
  • Controlling the dates for the opening and presentation to the media of each project, with a view to achieving maximum media presence and impact.
  • Following up projects through meetings with coordinators and with other external collaborators.
  • Controlling the annual budget at each exhibition space.
  • Ongoing evaluation and improvement of the working methodology in the Department.

1986-1989 Exhibition Coordinator

Coordinating exhibitions involves the global management of each project assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiations with lenders to obtain works.
  • Negotiations with transport- and insurance companies.
  • Managing the publication of the catalogue and promotional material.
  • Managing the design and following-up the installation of the exhibition.
  • Managing the security and surveillance.
  • Contacts with the lenders regarding the opening.
  • Managing the global budget for each exhibition.
  • Conservation of the Contemporary Art Collection.

Achievements

  • Reorganization of the economic control system of each project, so that partial control of each sub-head is established within the general expenditure on the project.
  • Beginning of the exchange of catalogues amongst all the museums and institutions with whom we are or become related.
  • Creation of one of the most important bibliographic center for exhibition catalogues in Barcelona.
  • Beginning of negotiations with VEGAP (society which controls artists’ rights & royalties) with a view to signing an agreement with them.

  • Coordination of monographic courses and seminars presented at the Cultural Center.
  • New design and edition of the press dossier for the exhibitions presented at the Sala.
  • Montcada, to heighten interest and improve the information system.
